Philadelphia PA Chapter

Makers Making Change is starting chapters all over North America!

@FutureMakersAcademy Thought you’d like to introduce yourself and give a bit of background/context in case anyone from your area comes to the forum and is looking for a local connection!

If anyone in the Philadelphia area wants to introduce themselves feel free to “reply to this thread” and say hi!

  • Who are you and where are you based out of?
  • What do you do, and what are your passions and areas of interest in assistive tech (and otherwise?)
  • What are you hoping to get out of the experience of being an MMC Leader or member?
  • What are you interested to know about other Chapter Leaders and members?

If you want to start your own thread that is relevant to the Philadelphia PAI area, start a new thread by clicking on Purple square that says “US Chapters” and then click “New Topic” on the right hand side. Add Philadelphia in the title and tags as well as some words that indicate the post topic.

If you want to talk about devices or other topics, they might fit better under an existing category in the forum so check out your options! We can help by stepping in to move threads is necessary.

Here is a video that walks you through the process .
If you are reading this and you aren’t signed up for the forum/website yet, these videos will also be helpful to get you started!

Hello Everyone! My name is Steve Brownstein and I am the Philadelphia Chapter Leader for Makers Making Change.
I am an educator who runs a maker education program called Future Makers Academy. One of my main goals in collaborating with MMC is to teach students how they can have an impact on their communities through combining maker technology and assistive technology. Another goal of this chapter is to spread MMC resources through the Philadelphia Library system. So, far I have given an introductory presentation at the Roxborough Library branch and hope to expand to the other branches eventually. If you want to collaborate or have build requests feel free to reach out.

Also, during the pandemic I am producing PPE for the community. If you are in need or know people who are, feel free to reach out.

Hey y’all. I’m Tom and I run the “CreATe Together” program through TechOWL - the AT Act program for the entire state of PA. I 3D print, design, and fabricate a bunch of assistive devices and we try our best to provide them for free to all Pennsylvanians. TechOWL’s CreATe Together project is based out of Philadelphia but we have partners in Chester, Bucks, Delaware, Butler, Alleghany and Washington counties. We hope to continue our services and getting assistive tech into the hands of Pennsylvanians with disabilities or loss of ability. We are trying to connect to everyone and build a community and friend group of passionate makers in PA.
